A Friend Is…

Editor’s Note:

Through my years of ministry, I have read several attempts at describing what a friend is. I am printing several of those descriptions here with the hope that we will provide those qualities for those in our lives. (elh)

A friend is one who is a source of sunshine when you are under the weather.

A friend is one who strengthens you with his prayers, blesses you with his love, and encourages you with his hope.A friend is one to whom distance is no barrier to communication, concern, or caring.

A friend is one whose thoughtfulness is exceeded only by his concern, whose helpfulness is second only to his awareness.

A friend is one who believes in you so strongly that you are motivated to stretch, to reach, to achieve beyond your fondest expectations.

A friend is one who transforms your loneliness into happiness, your sadness into joy, your gloom into gladness.

A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself.

A friend is one who is on the scene with you when you need him, and who quietly leaves when you want to be alone.

A friend is a source of celebration when you feel there is nothing to celebrate.

A friend is one who answers when you call …who often answers before you call.

A friend is one who makes your grief less painful, your adversity more bearable.

A friend is one who gives you a spark of assurance when you doubt your ability to fulfill your noblest aspiration, to climb your special mountain, to reach your secret goal.

A friend is one who is available to you, understanding of you, and patient with you.

A friend is one who gives you a spark of assurance when you doubt your ability to fulfill your noblest aspiration, to climb your special mountain, to reach your secret goal.

A friend is one who helps you bridge the gaps from loneliness to fellowship, from frustration to confidence, from despair to hope, from setbacks to success.

A friend is one who joyfully sings with you when you are on the mountain top, and silently walks beside you through the valley.

A friend is one with whom you are comfortable, to whom you are loyal, through whom you are blessed, and for whom you are grateful.
